cheeseIn many cases, value is added to products through product differentiation. That is, some consumers view your product as being better than other similar products and are also willing and able to pay a premium for your products. But reaching these consumers might mean taking advantage of market outlets that are very different than what you might be accustomed to.

In some cases, you may need to sell directly to your consumers. Such direct marketing efforts take advantage of one or more of a wide selection of possible outlets. You might develop a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) enterprise or a farm market. These typically have customers coming to your farm to purchase products. You might also use a farmers’ market or internet/mail order sales to reach consumers.

Alternatively, it might make more sense for you to take on the role of wholesaler, selling your products through specialty shops, schools, universities, restaurants, or other popular outlets. The nice thing about marketing your value-added products is that you are limited only by your imagination.
